The Department of Energy awarded $75 million to the Cleveland-Cliffs Butler Works steel facility.
Funding will be used to replace the gas furnaces with more energy-efficient induction furnaces, which run on electricity. This will improve yields by between 3 and 4 percent.
This investment will lower the mill's carbon footprint, cut processing costs, create jobs and boost skill-building, and increase steel output.
