A $9.8 million grant from the Department of Energy will fund a first-of-a-kind production facility for critical raw minerals essential for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in Taylor County, WV.
In a labor-management agreement, battery manufacturer Sparkz and the UMWA labor union aim to revitalize the local economy while prioritizing that local workers are not left behind. The agreement includes the recruitment and training of Taylor County workers, which will take place at the UMWA Career Center in Prosperity, PA.
The investment will revitalize and transform a closed manufacturing facility in the heart of West Virginia's coal country with the goal to employ 75 workers.
