The Ultium Cells EV battery plant in Lansing, Michigan, is a 2.8 million-square-foot facility being built to supply vehicle batteries to Toyota Motor Corp. Once fully operational, it aims to produce up to 50 gigawatt-hours of battery cells annually and create over 1,700 high-tech jobs in the region. (source)
In February 2025, GM pulled out of the Ultium Cells joint agreement. They have been replaced by Toyota, which committed $1.5 billion to the Michigan manufacturing facility promising 1,700 jobs.
A state of Michigan board overseeing economic development deals has approved the transfer of incentives for a $2.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Lansing after General Motors Co. exited the project.
