The Department of Energy's Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations selected Constellium's manufacturing facility in Ravenswood, WV to begin award negotiation for up to $75 million
The most energy intensive operation at plants like Constellium Ravenswood is the casthouse, where extremely high temperature furnaces melt minerals down for casting. The investment will help install low-emissions SmartMelt furnaces that can operate using a range of fuels, including clean hydrogen, paving the way towards a zero carbon casthouse.
These funds will also help maximize recycled scrap intake, improve worker safety with a hands-free casting process, create financial and technical resources for local schools and universities, and build a new training and wellness center for all employees and an onsite childcare.
