August 31, 2023; Governor Brian P. Kemp today announced that Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution (LGES) will invest an additional $2 billion in their battery cell manufacturing joint venture (JV) at the Metaplant in Bryan County, raising the JV’s total investment value to more than $4.3 billion. This expansion will create another 400 new jobs.
General Motors (GM) and Samsung SDI are investing $3 billion in a joint venture to establish an EV battery cell plant in Northern Indiana.
This project is generating 2 megawatts of electricity, which will be used to help power operations at a nearby data center. By offsetting that load, this project will help reduce strain on the grid and any costs that utility customers might otherwise have to pay.
Located at the site of a former Mitsubishi automotive plant, Rivian’s factory employs over 7,400 workers, with plans to add over 550 more jobs by 2026. It is the 2nd largest employer in McLean County, behind only State Farm.
Enphase invested nearly $20 million in private capital to develop this new facility, in addition to significant capital investments from its contract manufacturer.
