Canadian Solar Inc. headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, announced that it is establishing a 5 GW Solar PV cell production facility at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Canadian Solar is building a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing plant with an annual output of 5 GW, equivalent to approximately 20,000 high-power modules per day. The Jeffersonville facility represents a projected investment of more than $800 million and will create approximately 1,200 skilled high-tech jobs once production is fully ramped up. The solar cells produced at this facility will be used at the previously announced 5 GW module assembly plant in Mesquite, Texas. Production at the Jeffersonville facility is expected to begin by the end of 2025.

Panasonic Energy plans to develop the lithium-ion battery manufacturing project at a property in Kansas, which is expected to drive significant economic activity and opportunities for the local economy and could create up to 4,000 new jobs and result in an investment of approximately $4 billion. The company has identified a site in DeSoto, Kansas for this project.

Governor Laura Kelly announced in March 2024 that H&T Recharge, one of the largest battery component manufacturers in the world, is investing $110 million and creating 180 new jobs in De Soto. Leading cell manufacturer Panasonic Energy chose H&T Recharge as its strategic supplier for cylindrical battery cans at the new EV battery facility currently under construction.

General Motors is retooling its Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas to produce the new Ultium-battery-based Chevrolet Bolt EV. The retooling effort will cost $390 million.

Orange EV, the electric vehicle manufacturer with the most heavy-duty, zero-emission trucks in operation in the United States, announced in 2022 it would establish its new corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations in the Turner Logistics Center, an industrial park under construction by Kansas City-based NorthPoint Development in Kansas City, Kansas.

Stellantis N.V. and Samsung SDI announced that Kokomo, Indiana, will be the site for a second battery manufacturing facility in the United States as part of the StarPlus Energy joint venture. The new StarPlus Energy plant is expected to begin production in early 2027 with an annual capacity of 34 gigawatt hours (GWh).

ENTEK, the only US-owned and US-based producer of ‘wet-process’ lithium-ion battery separator materials, announced plans today to establish operations in Indiana, investing $1.5 billion in a new Terre Haute production facility.

SAMSUNG SDI announced that the company has completed and signed an agreement with General Motors to establish a joint venture to supply electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the United States.The ceremony was held at SAMSUNG SDI's office in Seoul, and was attended by key executives from both companies, including SAMSUNG SDI CEO Yoon-ho Choi. SAMSUNG SDI reached an agreement with GM in April of 2023 to form an EV battery joint venture.

Toyota will invest $1.4 billion in its assembly plant here to build a new, three-row, battery-electric SUV. The project is expected to add 340 new jobs at the factory. The investment will create the infrastructure to make the new vehicle, as well as add an assembly line to produce the battery packs for it.
