The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has allocated $78 million in National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funds over five years, beginning in fiscal year 2023. With this funding, they’ve awarded $23 million across 53 projects, fully building out the Alternative Fuel Corridors.

Notably, Wisconsin is the first state to award Tribal projects as part of the federal program, with two Tribal Nations receiving over $800,000 in funding. Thirteen selected sites will be installed in disadvantaged communities, and many sites will be located at Wisconsin-founded businesses. This swift distribution of funds aims to make electric vehicle (EV) charging accessible for all Wisconsinites and establish a functional network of charging stations within the state, contributing to breaking oil’s monopoly on transportation, improving national security, creating jobs, and enhancing public health.
